Music Therapy
DSC01115
Music Therapy is an integral part of the program at Bridge View School. Music Therapy is the use of music and music related strategies to assist or motivate a student towards specific non-musical goals. Music therapists at Bridge View use their training to support changes in a student's physical, cognitive, communication, social and emotional well-being. Sessions are designed specifically to meet individual needs and reinforce goals and objectives on the IEP.
Music therapists lead Music and Movement classes, giving all non-ambulatory students the experience of movement and dance. High School students from Open School are partners with Bridge View students in this interactive setting.
The Bridge View Instrumental Chorus meets daily, involving about 30 students. They use traditional and/or eclectic instruments and have the opportinity to perform throughout the year. Music is powerful teaching tool. Therapists combine music with language, literacy and assistive technology, challenging all students to increase skills through the motivating medium of music.
