Heather Cronin Ott--eyes on you!
Hello Parents, Students, Friends, and Family Members!
Welcome to the 2009/2010 School Year.

I'm really excited to implement some new things that I learned over the summer.

1. I went to the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill for a training on the TEACCH method.  Basically, this is a structured teaching approach to classroom management and learning that was developed to work with students with autism but also works well with children with other disabilities.  My biggest focus will be to teach your child to be more independent when completing school work, playing with peers, and going about the school day.  Ask me about it!
2. We are beginning a literacy initiative at BVS and I am looking forward to implementing innovative and effective approaches to teaching my students all the aspects of literacy.  This is a work in progress so I hope to share our successes as well as gain input from you.  I will be using the MONDO reading curriculum in the classroom paired with the FOUR BLOCKS approach to balanced literacy.
3. We have new students in the classroom and some have moved on to middle school.  Our classroom staff this year include myself, Linda, Jenny and Susan.  We look forward to teaching your child this year and hope to build a strong working relationship with our students and their families.

Here is some basic information for you:
  • If you would like to contact me please try to reach me from 8:00-9:00am or 3:30-4:00pm.  I generally won't answer my classroom phone during school hours.
  • If you have an emergency during the school day and need to reach me please ask the office receptionist to page me.
  • I do have voice mail and the receptionist will usually patch you through to this.  I try to check my voice mail each morning and after school.
The main school number is 651-293-8640.
  • My  email is  heather.cronin-ott@spps.org  You may contact me via email if that is convenient for you.
Parents and family members don't hesitate to contact me if you would like to volunteer your time in the classroom if your schedule permits.  Have a wonderful year!
